CBGB's

Apparently the aforementioned title is the name of a pretty famous concert venue in the city. Acts like alan jackson, the Ramones, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers got their first starts at this popular city locale. Anyway, the lead guitar player in my band is off on tour with his band Tokyo Rose, and one of his first stops was at CBGB's. It was a great show, with a bunch of really good bands. It was a neat place to watch underground rock/punk music, and the venue was anything but impressive, but it was really unique. all over the building there were stickers from year and years of bands that played there. It was pretty dark, but i would guess that if the lights were up, it would look like a big hole in the wall. Nonetheless, a great experience.

I've been reading my nyc tourbook that mum passed me before i left, I'm hoping to be adventurous and head off to the city tomorrow - probably alone. I haven't made that many friends yet, plus I work with some of these people all the time, it would be nice to get a bit of a break from people. There are really only a small number of people who are interested in the city. People from new jersey tend to like to stay in Jersey and people in the city have no reason to go anywhere else!

this week has been pretty good. I'm learning so much and not in the way that I thought that i would either. The one thing that i'm sure about, thru the trials and hardship is that I'm constantly focussing on the problem or the issue. I kinda get the sense that while God is sympathetic about those issues, He's really more concerned with the person that I'm becoming thru hardship. Even if new jersey ends up being a great experience and i come home in january, I thank God that I'm learning the things that i'm learning about ministry, and what being effective truly is about.

I'm in a situation where the leadership strongly feels that while people come to the table with all sorts of experiences and qualifications, true leadership always shows itself despite its circumstances. So i kinda feel like i'm in a bucket of rocks. and thru all the shaking and moving around, eventually big rocks will always rise to the surface. and as a leader, I should have no worries that with time, my influence and abilities will be fully utilised, but for now - put up with the turbulence.

also i've realised that I've been asking the wrong question since i've been here. I should not be asking whether or not I fit in Skyline. Related to an above point, the hardship process and how i respond to it, will tell me (at the end of the process) whether or not I'm supposed to be here. asking that question now only colours my view of how to fully experience and react genuinely to my surroundings.

I hope that makes sense, maybe it won't but thanks for reading anyway...no matter where you may be... =)

keep me in your thoughts in the upcoming week and say a couple words for me to the big guy up there, for patience, endurance, humility and above all, love for people.

Sounds like God is teaching you some hard lessons, but hang in there because God's lessons are worth learning. Know that we are praying for you.

Did you get into the city? The best bagel I ever had came from a little stand two blocks from where they broadcast the Today Show. $.50 and ohhh so yummy.

If you follow God and seek to do His will there will always be a good ending for your reward is in heaven and His glory will be known throughout the world.
