Yankee Stadium!

Someone had free tickets to a New York Yankees baseball game and invited me to go! I'm not much of a baseball fan, but this is sort of a big deal if you know anything about professional sports. The New York Yankees is one of the most successful sports franchises in the world and like any other city, the culture of New York is steeped closely with its sports teams. This infamous stadium was a real treat. The baseball game ended up to be a pretty good one too. it was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the 9th inning, and New York hit a homerun to win the game! the stadium was just crazy. so here are some pics of my little adventure into the heart of the Bronx.

The road into Yankee stadium

The view of the buildings just outside of Yankee Stadium

Mmm...fresh pretzels and lemonade. Actually thats all this was good for - the eyes. Like any other sporting event, the food is extremely overpriced and never that good.

My ticket to the game. if you'll notice, the price of the ticket of $5! I was pretty shocked by the price. I mean thats how much the stupid lemonade cost me! Its nice to know that in this day and age, the average family can still afford to take their kids to a professional ball game....in one of the most expensive cities in the world! I know in Vancouver, you'd never be able to see a Canucks game for $5. and i think the cheapest football ticket i ever paid for was like $15.

Let's play ball!

So there's thing here called Dippin Dots. I've never heard of it before, but apparently its ice cream pellets and they are sold in regular ice cream freezers. there's a whole bunch of flavours that you can get, and i guess the key is that it must be WAY easier to scoop a bunch of dry pellets than it does to scoop the real stuff. has anyone else heard of this before? cos i felt like an alien looking into my cup. Man, and white folk give asian people a hard time for bubble tea!?!? this is definitely qualifies to be JUST AS WEIRD.

My dippin dots was served in a yankees baseball cap. and it tasted pretty good - just like ice cream really, just packaged differently!

so yeah, that was yet another cool adventure into the city! hopefully there will be more to come...

hey cool, pics! "i get to work....with the NEW YAWK YANKEES!" - George Costanza.

wow, that stadium is quite spectacular - it's huge! $5 a ticket is quite good...BUT i did hear that the canucks had a game this past weekend (blue against white i think) for $5...so while it's not really a game, it IS still a canucks game :)

ice cream pellets. i have heard of them before - and i saw how they were made on the Food Network! James says that there's a place here that sells that type of ice cream so i'll have to try it. what did it cost you, like $20 cos of the hat??

i say eh way more than i ever thought i did. So everytime i say eh, i catch myself, but then its too late. I probably say it consistently about half a dozen times a day. depending on how much i am conversing casually with people. the dippin dots was $5.50. apparently they don't get much cheaper than that. you can also buy them at concession stands and theaters, you can't buy them at stores...apparently

Hey Darrell,
So cool to hear about your adventures. Keep it coming.

So I once knew a Canadian math teacher who taught in the USA. She was doing algerbra and called the z "zed." Her students laughed at her and they had a heated debate over "zee" or "zed" as the correct pronunciation. One student finally won the debate when he argued the following: "Well, if you call your z, zed, what do you call your t then, 'ted?'"

I guess it does make sense. :S
