hey folks
its been almost a month since i last blogged. A LOT has happened that i'd like to fill you in about!
In the midst of waiting for my marks from the summer to come in, I had sorta been in limbo and since i got back from the East Coast, have desperately been looking for work. As there weren't any classes left for me to take, i'd have to take two by distance and my january class was pushed back to June.
I found out though, earlier this month that my marks that came in from the summer bumped my GPA up high enough to qualify to write a thesis. this is a significant opportunity because most of the degrees offered at Briercrest are geared to equip people practically, and not necessarily for a career in research. So the task of a thesis is NOT typically what most students prefer. In the light of possible further education, i know that a thesis is a step the right direction, as it will show my aptitude for research and the suitability of my experiences if i were to apply to do another degree.
As such, that leaves me with virtually nothing to do until i can officially write my thesis next september. I began to consider what the heck i could be doing with my life given the change of circumstances. I figured trying to get by juggling part time jobs hadn't really helped me out so far, so I began applying for full time work around the country. As such...something has come up! and its a bit of dream for me.
I've just been offered officially (today!), a chance to manage the North Vancouver Park n Tilford Blockbuster location, and I enthusiastically accepted the offer. Not only will this job help me out financially (huge pay increase), it will also give me the time i need to be writing this thesis part time. It also offers me the opportunity to act out on my dream of one day working and living in my hometown of North Vancouver .
This position also strategically places me for success within the company. If i do well, I hope to be able to move on to a more executive management role in one or two years. This is exciting for me because I have really grown to love this company that I've worked for the past 3 years, and I'm excited to use my degree in leadership/management to it fullest potential as a manager. the next level prospects are exciting for me. As a district leader, i would have the challenging task of managing other managers. Or if a head office job opens up in human resources, i believe it will also be a great fit because my degree has taken on that unexpected focus during my studies.
This means a couple of things. Firstly, its time to move on from Briercrest. Its been two years, but two very good years where I've learnt so much about the word "work" means to the pilgrim's progress. I've also been put in an incubator environment of sorts, and grown exponentially as a person and citizen.
I will be leaving many wonderful relationhips that i've developed over the past two years, but thankfully, i won't have to plant myself in a completely new community all over again. Going home has never felt so timely.
This is where i need your help! If you live in the Lower Mainland. PLEASE keep your ears peeled for available housing! I am interested in talking to anyone who needs a roomate or even anyone who has a basement suite or apartment to sublet or housesit. i'm open to ANYTHING!
Also, at this point, I am open to staying anywhere that has a reasonable commute to North Vancouver, although I've already heard of very reasonable options that I can easily afford. Those would be solo options though...so like i said, if you hear of anything. Vancouver, Burnaby, New West, West Van (teehee, yeah right) are all viable options for me.
Some of you have also heard about the recent "drama" that Cheryl and I went thru, I'm happy to report to we had to chance to talk things through last week and things are (it seems) even better than before. We are gonna keep working on this relationship thing and try to keep further plans in check. We've kinda realised that there is a whole lot more to learn about each other and get used to before we will be ready to make any strong commitments. As such, it looks (at this point) that she will likely be moving to vancouver as well for two reasons. She wants to find full time work and there are more opportunities in Vancouver. She wants to explore the Counselling program over at Trinity Western, as of now she's feeling like she's in the wrong program and wants a change anyway.
So as you are keeping your ears peeled for me... it would be great if you pass along any information for work and a place to live for Cheryl as well.
thanks for journeying with me, it seems that yet again, the progress will continue towards another exciting chapter back in North Vancouver.
