There's a new dvd that will be coming out on tuesday called Rumor Has It. I watched it over a couple of days and had heard good things about it.
Its a spinoff story about the classic movie The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman. The rumor is that the screenplay was written on a real life scenario, where a younger man (Hoffman) is seduced by an older, more distinguished lady. Consequently, he also proceeds to have a relationship with her daughter later in the story.
In this movie, the Jennifer Aniston character is the third generation of women in the family, with her grandmother and deceased mother already having had a relationship with the character of Beau Burroughs
Its a poignant story of doubt, confusion and the true meaning of love. In the end, the women go back to their husbands or fiancees after they realise what true love is about. There is definite character development, and these women end up learning some really great lessons about love, commitment and being in community.
What bugged me a bit about the story, was the plight of Beau Burroughs, who at the end, seems to sorta just fade into the back of the story, like his life didn't really matter. Like he was somehow significant in helping these women realise some things, but at the end of the day, didn't really deserve any justice. the poor guy had his heart broken at least twice, and everyone else seemed to ride off into the sunset with their new found realisations and triumphs.
what bugs me about this is because I think its a realistic phenomenon that happens all the time. All Beau did was put his heart on the line, and dared to love wholeheartedly and be vulnerable. In the end though, his life did influence these women to realise that they actually loved other people, instead of him. wow. that bites. big time. but its life, and its the risk you take when you start all kinds of relationships
